Patrick called us with his intention to ask Amy to Marry him and asked if we could help him out. We talked to him about several packages that we could put together and as it turned out our Engagement Package was perfect for him.

They check-in around 5 to find Godiva dipped strawberries and chilled champagne in a silver bucket along with a dozen gorgeous red roses by the fireplace. After a little relaxing they went on to dinner to Opus 9 Steakhouse ( included in their package )Where they had an amazing dinner and where he popped the question......

The next morning breakfast was delivered to them in bed at which time I Heard "I Said Yes!" From Amy.... They just left to go to the Williamsburg winery for the tour, tasting and lunch that also came with their package. It connects three of the state’s most important and highly treasured historical sites. One site, Jamestown, was the first permanent English settlement. The parkway's main focus, Williamsburg, was the colonial capital during the 18th Century. The parkway ends at Yorktown, where America claimed its independence with the defeat of the British. Everything possible has been done to maintain the integrity of this historic area, including keeping the parkway as a scenic route unhampered by commercial development. Road signs are kept to a minimum so as not to detract from the parkway's gentle beauty. No trucks are allowed, giving tourists a better chance to enjoy the scenery and wildlife without all of the noise. The parkway is beautiful year round, with its slightly rolling land and mass of indigenous trees and greenery. However, spring and fall are popular times of the year when people come from hundreds of miles away to bask in its glory.

1
Set aside several hours (at least three once you're there) for the visit. Once amidst the vibrant colors of fall on the parkway, it is hard to tear yourself away from the splendor. Few people just drive the road without stopping. If they do, they miss out on all that the parkway has to offer.
2
Bring a camera. There aren’t many sites in the United States that take such great care to maintain the original condition of a historic area. The trees are magnificent in their autumn glory and the waterways (James and York Rivers) are usually peaceful and calm. Some of the wildlife and waterfowl, which are also authentic to the area, are so accustomed to humans that they seemingly pose for photos.
3
Use binoculars to get a real feel for the stunning beauty of parkway and all of its perfect beauty.
4
Stop at as many of the parkway's roadside viewing areas as possible. Each one has something different to offer, so one stop is never enough to get the full parkway effect.
5
Prepare a picnic to consume on the way. Take time to sit and enjoy the yellow, amber, orange, coral, red and maroon colors of autumn on the parkway.
6
Visit the first point of the Historic Virginia triangle: Yorktown. The Victory Center leads tourists to the most interesting aspects of this historic site. While many will stop to stare at the stirring Yorktown Victory Monument, which was built to commemorate America's defeat of the British, it is the Yorktown Battlefield that stirs patriotic blood. Surrounding the battlefield are hundreds of trees resplendent with vibrant colors ranging from pale yellow to deep plum.
7
Travel to Jamestown, the birthplace of America. On the James River sits the James Fort (of 1607). The settlement site offers tourists much to explore including craftsmen, like glass blowers, that still produce items the way they were done back when Jamestown was born.
8
Bicycle around the 5-mile Jamestown Loop. Along the way, enjoy the amazing colors of Virginia's fall foliage, which forms a colorful tent overhead. Recently added to the area is a 5-mile road called Capital Trail. It takes visitors deep into another Virginia forest awash with color.
9
Visit the colonial capital of Williamsburg. Cobblestone roads lead to the past, still woven into the tapestry around this city. Nothing is allowed to mar the parkway experience. There are no signs, power lines, or bill boards to destroy the step back into time. Maybe your hem will come loose or your nail will break, or maybe you just need a tissue to dry your eyes.

For whatever you may need, it's important to have a bridal emergency kit with you the day of the wedding. You don't want to be running to a drugstore or have your mom, groom or bridesmaid running out for you. To save time and calm nerves, it's better to be prepared.

If you don't end up using all the items in your emergency kit you can bring some of them with you on your honeymoon or have your mom or a bridesmaid pack them up and bring them home for you. Understanding how they work and is essential to making sure your stay is pleasant and relaxing.
In New England, inns and bed and breakfasts are a popular choice and often located in historic homes full of
antiques and unique furnishings. In other parts of the country and world the term is more loosely used in describing a place to rest your head for the night and then move on.
In my book, inns are a delightful alternative to hotels and resorts, But they are not for everybody, and here’s the answers to some basic questions to determine if it’s the type of accommodation that’ll work for you…

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INNS AND BED AND BREAKFASTS?
Let’s start by clearing up any confusion on the differences between inns and bed and breakfasts. And it’s not so much in the name as how they advertise themselves.
Firstly, there’s rarely any difference in accommodation. The personality of a bed and breakfast can be every bit as good as the charm of an inn. One difference is in the prepared meals. A bed and breakfast is just that… expect a bed… and a breakfast, but you’re on your own for dinner. But at inns, they’re set-up to provide dinner as well. Also at an Inn you will sit a private table much like a restaurant but at most bed and breakfast’s you will be sitting family style with the other guests. This can be a very lovely experience as you will enjoying getting to know other like minded folks who may also be able to steer you in the right direction of the great restaurant or show they enjoyed the night before.

In many areas of the world inns and bed and breakfasts are also called guesthouses. If at all possible ask to see a picture of the place, or visit their web site, where one should be posted. A lot can be surmised from a picture of your potential accommodation.

ARE THEY RIGHT FOR MY KIDS?
Many inns and bed and breakfasts don’t accommodate young children. Sometimes the age and furnishings of the place are not appropriate for the fingers and playfulness of kids. But when an inn says kids are welcome, then you’d better believe they really mean they’re kid friendly. Now there’s nothing wrong with that (I have three myself), but don’t expect too much peace and quiet and solitude.
Between those inns that ban children, and those that embrace them, you’ll find a number of listings that put age restriction on children. For example they’ll say something like: 12 or older, or above 6-years old. These places are also catering to a single or couple looking for a chance to unwind and free of noise and high activity. If you’ve got high-action kids then bed and breakfasts may not be ideal for your family.

WHAT SERVICE CAN I EXPECT?
Staying in inns is different than staying at a hotel. You shouldn’t expect a country inn to be like a Hilton, with hordes of staff at your beck and call, and soundproof walls. Also, having a party and playing loud music after 11:00pm won’t win you any brownie points with your host or the other guests.
Remember… the innkeeper or host is there to provide you, and other guests, with a unique experience in unique surroundings, but to do that they’ll need your understanding.

WHAT’S THE USUAL CHECK-IN CHECK-OUT TIME?
Your host will go out of their way to greet you when you check-in. Usually when you reserve you’ll be told when their normal check-in and check-out times are. But most can accommodate your arrival and departure outside those hours But you need to let them know if you’ll be late arriving so they can arrange for you to get into the house (yes, the doors are locked after a certain hour), and to your room. It’s one thing to show up at midnight at your hotel – they’re staffed round the clock – but it’s entirely another matter to roll-in after 11:00pm at a bed and breakfast, and expect your host to get out of bed and greet you smiling. After all, they’re probably making an early breakfast for everybody in the morning.

CAN YOU NEGOTIATE PRICE?
Just like hotels the room rate for inns is negotiable. The main difference is unlike a hotel, the person on the other end of a phone is usually the owner of the bed and breakfast, and they can make the decision on the spot. All you have to do is ask in a nice way.
Just remember the innkeeper may only have a few rooms to begin with anyway, and if you’re haggling over the last room then don’t be offended if they don’t give you a price reduction. But on the other hand one room of a four-room inn without a paying guest reduces a host’s profit by 25%. So it’s always worth asking for a reduction!

HOW MUCH CAN YOU REALLY SAVE?
Most inns can book their weekends or popular seasonal period’s weeks in advance. For instance, in New England the fall foliage season makes rooms a premium, and most are booked many months in advance.
But outside these constraints filling the rooms at an inn during the week, particularly off-season, is much more difficult. You’ll get the best deals for bed and breakfasts traveling mid-week and out of season. Now contrast this with hotels that have the opposite problem, because they cater to the mid-week business traveler, but can’t get people in rooms at the weekends.

WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED TO KNOW?
Here’s a few extra tips once you’ve decided an inn or bed and breakfast is the right choice for you…
Be sure to get detailed directions to the inn as many are converted homes and blend in with the surroundings, and don’t have neon advertising signs like hotels. When you call make sure you understand the cancellation polices as they are usually much more restrictive than hotels. And don’t forget your host is familiar with the area and can point you to attractions and restaurants not on any tour guide or map.
I love staying in inns. They’ve a lot going for them. You were given a bed to sleep in and a meal to start your day. After breakfast, you were on your way out the door

The bed and breakfast industry began to flourish in the U.S. during the 1980s, and B&Bs thrive today in large part because they provide an atmosphere of warmth and hospitality that traditional hotels simply can't match -- although many now try.

Most bed and breakfasts are owned by the innkeepers, who usually lives onsite or in a guest house on the property. It's natural to expect that innkeepers who live in their own inns will bring a different perspective to the job than someone who works a shift behind a hotel reception desk and then goes home and forgets about the customers left behind.

At good B&Bs, "customers" are truly guests, and it shows. Innkeepers function as the concierge, providing personal recommendations. Innkeepers will gladly help you find the best restaurant in town, point you to the most romantic spot in the nearby park, and much more.

If you've never stayed at a B&B or inn, it's important to note that some bed and breakfasts provide private bathrooms with private entry from your room, while other inns provide private and shared bathrooms located outside of your room (usually down the hall from your room). Here at the Colonial Gardens Bed and Breakfast, we only have private en suite bathrooms.

Most bed and breakfasts generate most of their income from repeat business. Many also depend on word-of-mouth recommendations so, it's easy to see why most innkeepers go out of their way to make sure your stay provides some great relaxation and memories.

There are several types of people who choose to stay at a bed and breakfast. The purist stays at a bed and breakfast because they simply like the idea of being with "friends" and because staying at a bed and breakfast adds an interesting twist to your trip when you meet other travelers from around the world. Another type of person who stays at a bed and breakfast is someone not so much interested in meeting new people, but rather, instead these people prefer the pampering and luxury of staying in a house that is often historic in nature with many upscale features. Many lady business travelers prefer it for the obvious safety reasons. And Corporate travel being so boring, a B&B can truly make you feel at home.

So welcome to the wonderful world of bed and breakfasts and remember the Colonial Gardens Bed and Breakfast is your choice for luxury accomidations in Williamsburg Virginia

What to do on a spring day in Williamsburg

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 248px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_OxRLJuBuE1E/S792WepQrUI/AAAAAAAAALQ/6HU4_aH3ZBY/s320/AZALEACOLOAGE.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5458211401951653186" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_OxRLJuBuE1E/S792V02vwOI/AAAAAAAAALI/ssRI0zBTVSE/s320/wineanddine.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5458211390733926626" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 110px; height: 147px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_OxRLJuBuE1E/S792Vl2mOmI/AAAAAAAAALA/GttdNUB-hNY/s320/18centuryThumb.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5458211386706770530" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 90px; height: 142px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_OxRLJuBuE1E/S792VQ5U5uI/AAAAAAAAAK4/YKMCEt7T3wc/s320/tarpleys.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5458211381081073378" />
What to do on a spring day in Williamsburg

Colonial Williamsburg has become a much more well rounded — and upscale — experience in recent years. Local chefs have adapted traditional Southern cooking and native ingredients to create more exotic combinations. Virginia wineries, once thought of as bargain wines produce high-quality vintages. The central district of Williamsburg is known not only for stark Colonial homes but also for a lavish Spas, fine dining and upscale shops. Of course, if you want to see a staging of Patrick Henry’s “Give Me Liberty, or Give Me Death!” speech, or stick your head in the stocks, that’s still an option.

Virginia wines now hold their own in global wine competitions, and the Williamsburg Winery, a few miles from the Colonial District www.williamsburgwinery.com), is the largest winery in the state. Its chardonnays — particularly the fruity, oaky Acte 12 chardonnay — have won much acclaim from critics. On a spring afternoon, attend a tasting ($8 and $30) and then head over to the adjacent tavern for a wonderful lunch.

This time of year check out the Colonial buildings and re-enactments anytime of day with the spring temperatures highs are around 75. Your Innkeeper can help you purchase discount tickets.

Colonial Williamsburg This Week, a free print publication, contains up-to-date listings of re-enactments, but don’t miss the Governor’s Palace, home to royal governors (and Patrick Henry) and the Bruton Parish Church (one of the oldest Episcopal churches in America). And look for re-enactors who are engaged in political debates. which tend to be less stilted than other re-enactments.
Noon

More than just a purveyor of cider mugs and souvenir tricorner hats, Merchants Square, on the west end of the Colonial District, also serves up unusual — and sometimes pricey antiques, quilts, silver and other American crafts. Try the Nancy Thomas Gallery of Folk Art; www.nancythomas.com) or J. Fenton Modern American Crafts; www.quiltsunlimited.com) for updated interpretations — in jewelry, clothing and other formats — of the quirky traditions of folk art found in the Rockefeller collection.

When you get hungry for lunch, grab a gourmet sandwich at the Cheese shop on the square next door to the Fat Canary which has quickly established itself far above the taverns of Williamsburg, which tend to serve mediocre pub-style food in traditional alehouse atmosphere. Fat Canary serve up in suave, Art Deco-looking surroundings, Fat Canary serves nouvelle cuisine that mixes local with innovative takes, resulting in combinations like crispy cornmeal oysters with charred tomato and free-range pheasant with polenta, pine nuts and pancetta. Reservations are essential. Dinner for two without wine is around $100 and worth every penny!

When you finish a long day of walking and shopping, a visit to the Spa of Colonial Williamsburg might just be what you need. Right in the Colonial District, the spa serves the usual menu of treatments, but in keeping with the history theme, it also offers a twist: packages based on practices from the early days of American history, like an 18th-century treatment with colonial-era herbs like pennyroyal, sage, rosemary, angelica and juniper berries

In colonial times, Williamsburg was known as much for drinking as for debating — taverns served as meeting places, the perfect setting for wielding influence in the powerful Virginia colony. The restored Colonial District features four working taverns — some serving lunch, dinner or both — striving to recreate an authentic atmosphere. Most feature similar workaday fare like sandwiches and local seafood, but the ambience can’t be beat.

After all this fun and fare it time to head on back to your home away from home, The Colonial Gardens Bed and Breakfast. Where you will sleep on luxury linens on superior bedding and wake to the fabulous smells of Kona coffee and the rest of your breakfast fare. Father and son both married their brides on the same day, officiated by James Gilley.

Jennifer Cagle wore a beautiful long white gown and carried A hand tied bouquet of spring flowers.

Couple number two said their nuptials in a more casual Attire, but the bride, Susan Bezemer, was no less beautiful wearing a persimmon dress and caring a bouquet of pale blue hydrangeas and White roses. The couples dined together at Opus nine Steakhouse that evening.

Staying in the Romantic Rhododendron suite the following week was the next couple to wed here at the Colonial Gardens Bed and Breakfast Susan Ayres and Joesph Lebert. The bride wore a gorgeous fuchsia silk dress and carried White callas and tulips with just a splash of pink rose. They were married by Eunice Fenwick a local marriage commissioner and dined at Opus 9 steak house.

As always when you are looking for the perfect garden wedding or just the right romantic place to spend your honeymoon in Williamsbrug Virginia, Look no further than the Colonial Gardens Bed and Breakfast at 1109 Jamestown Road in Williamsburg. 800-886-9715.

Elopements, the affordable alternative

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 225px; height: 150px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_OxRLJuBuE1E/S5Z7hSAna9I/AAAAAAAAAKQ/6QIVNqWI50E/s320/lilesweb.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446676611051514834" />
A beautiful, intimate day free of stress and high-cost. It's your day, your wedding day.

Intelligent, independent couples elope for many reasons. Some to create the wedding they want without any compromises, some to put their relationship ahead of a commercialized tradition. Some because the logistics of bring family together is difficult.

Today's elopements are on the rise and they are happy surprises. Eloping is the wedding day as it was before the advent of the circus wedding affair that included the 200 person guest list, and the $5000 bar bill. A wedding is a day, but a marriage is forever.

While elopements have traditionally been an exclusive affair consisting of only the Bride and Groom, they don't have to be. Just because you elope does not mean that family members or friends can't be with you. You can still have your father walk you down the aisle or your best friend witness your ceremony. The best part of eloping is that there are no rules!

Be happy about your decision to put your relationship and future first. Relish that your first steps in wedded bliss can be putting the down payment on a house, or an indulgent trip of a lifetime, not paying off the $28,800 the average wedding costs today. Your decision to elope is no longer outside of the norm, congratulations and welcome to the elopement community.

Is your family feeling a little blue about missing the magical moment of your ceremony? Consider hiring a videographer to record your ceremony. Then you can surprise your family with a special gift or play it during a post elopement party.

Since your looking at this I just bet you or someone you know is looking at the possibility of eloping right? Well, why not consider us here at the Colonial Gardens Bed and Breakfast in Williamsburg Virginia. It may have a fireplace and unlike a stale, cookie cutter hotel it should have character and warmth. It will also have something no hotel can offer, an innkeeper who owns and operates the B&B thus giving it a personal touch.

Just as important as having the right backdrop for your romantic interlude is having the right frame of mind for it. Don’t go into it with an itinerary of what your going to do every moment of your romantic getaway, what’s romantic about that. Being able to linger after breakfast with a walk in the garden or share a glass of wine in front of the fireplace in your room before going to dinner makes for great romantic moments.

At many bed and breakfasts, the innkeepers provide a videocassette recorder or DVD player in your room. Some B&B’s also provide movies for you, most a no additional charge. A romantic movie is a great way to get the mood going, here are some of the most romantic movies out there:
1. Casablanca
From 1942, starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.
2. Gone With the Wind
From 1939, starring Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh.
3. West Side Story
From 1961, starring Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer.
4. Roman Holiday
From 1953, starring Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn.
5. An Affair to Remember
From 1957, starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr.
6. The Way We Were
From 1973, starring Robert Redford and Barbra Streisand.
7. Doctor Zhivago
From 1965, starring Omar Sharif and Julie Christie.
8. It's a Wonderful Life
From 1946, starring Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed.
9. Love Story
From 1970, starring Ali McGraw and Ryan O'Neal.
10. City Lights
From 1931, starring Charlie Chaplin and Virginia Cherrill.

Ask your Innkeeper if your B&B provides a music player in your room if not, bring one along with some romantic and sensual music. The Colonial Gardens Bed and Breakfast in Williamsburg VA provides a CD, MP3 player in all of their rooms. They also have a “Love Songs” CD, that can be purchased and playing in your room or suite when you check-in for only $10. If your B&B dose not provide these here are some examples of the most loved love songs of our era:

"Someone to Watch Over Me"
George and Ira Gershwin, 1926

The birthplace of this lovely and moody number was an otherwise light and frothy Broadway musical called "Oh, Kay." The song was originally fast-paced, but soon moved to the ballad form.

"Night and Day"
by Cole Porter, 1932

Written for the play, "Gay Divorce," and also appearing in the film, "The Gay Divorcee," this may be the most famous of Porter's 800+ songs

"Unchained Melody"
Alex North and Hy Zaret, 1936

William Stirrat was 16 and too shy to approach the girl of his dreams, so he wrote one of the world's most beautiful tales of love and longing (using Zaret as his pen name). The breathtaking melody was by Alex North (who went on to compose scores for "Spartacus," "Cleopatra," and many other films).

"First Time Ever I Saw Your Face"
by Ewan MacColl, 1957

A long, slowly-building flame is how some people describe the version sung by Roberta Flack, which created a sensation when it appeared in Clint Eastwood's 1971 directorial debut, "Play Misty for Me."

"Cherish"
by Terry Kirkman, 1966

Kirkman reportedly wrote this lovely song in a half-hour while he was the keyboard player in the overlooked Los Angeles-based band The Association. Featuring wonderfully expressive vocal harmonies

"God Only Knows"
by Brian Wilson, 1966

Although it begins with the line, "I may not always love you," the rest of the song is as assertive about undying love as anything ever written.

"Your Song"
by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, 1967

It is said that the original lyric sheet has coffee stains on it because Taupin wrote the song at breakfast one morning at the home of John's parents.

"I Will Always Love You"
by Dolly Parton, 1974

When Dolly Parton ended her professional songwriting relationship with Porter Wagoner, she wrote this heartfelt breakup song even though they were not romantically involved.

“Heaven"
by Jim Vallance and Bryan Adams, 1983

Written for the thankfully forgotten 1983 film "A Night in Heaven," the song also appeared on Adams' "Reckless" album the following year and hit number one.

"In Your Eyes"
by Peter Gabriel, 1986

This track from Gabriel's "So" album has been called the most beautiful love song ever recorded.

Now that you have your Backdrop and atmosphere covered make sure to ask your innkeeper for recommendations to the most romantic restaurants in town. Any good innkeeper goes out to dinner often enough to make sure they know what is going on around town and who is offering the best steak or crab cakes. I call it research and development, well at least that’s how I justify it with my husband.

Don’t forget the candles, chocolates and Champagne! Most innkeepers will be able to provide these things for you at a reasonable charge and trust me they will definitely add to romantic experience but none more than a decadent and delicious Breakfast served in bed. Some B&B’s offer this as an add-on service here at the Colonial Gardens B&B we offer Breakfast in bed with many of our romantic packages.

With all these things considered your search for the perfect romantic interlude should be a lot easier. The couple and their respective families hailed from New Jersey and got here just in time to avoid the latest northeast winter blast.

The family stayed at the Colonial Gardens Bed and Breakfast in Williamsburg Virginia for 2 nights. The wedding took place in the living room under beautiful flowing white and ivory sheers and white roses. The bride stood on white rose petals.

James Gilley, a Williamsburg marriage commissioner, officiated the wedding nuptials. The bride wore ivory and carried a beautiful hand tied bridal bouquet made by the floral design team at Colonial Gardens B&B, It consisted of large white Akito roses with lily grass, flat fern and white stock. The maid of honor, her sister, wore black and carried deep red Black Magic red and white roses.

The family went on after the vows to the Opus 9 Steakhouse where they were seated to a private dinner in the Mozart room to enjoy their meal, cake and champagne.

The group awoke the next morning to enjoy cream cheese filed croissants’ lightly backed with a homemade grand Marnier sauce drizzled on top with backed eggs on cream and crisp bacon. Needless to say, this family did not go home hungry!

Looking for the perfect Williamsburg Location for you intimate Williamsburg wedding? It is wise to inquire ahead of time if you have a preference.

When you check in, you of course want the rooms clean and fresh--and the innkeepers do too--just for you. Guests should not "use" any other bathroom without permission even though it is not occupied because it has been readied for the "next" guests, and when you use it that changes the advertised "private" bath to a "shared" bath through no fault of the innkeepers.

Breakfast is normally included in the room rate at most inns, but taxes are not, and will vary from location to location, since some municipalities will levy taxes along with a state's tourism tax and possible sales taxes in certain areas. So generally you would need to ask if you want to know how much the tax will be.

If making your reservation by phone, call during hours that you wouldn't mind being called yourself, usually between 10 AM ( after breakfast is served ) and no later than 8 PM ( Innkeepers get up early. B&Bs are not hotels with 24-hour desk clerks. If requesting a reservation via e-mail, do it any old time.

Breakfast is usually "chef's choice" with either a designated serving time or your choice of a serving time. Ours is 8:30 AM. It is wise to notify the innkeeper in advance of your arrival if you have dietary restrictions or allergies affected by feathers, certain pets, etc., since the inn may have feather pillows and some innkeepers have pets of their own. Innkeepers will try to accommodate special needs whenever possible if they have time to prepare for them.

Make reservations as early as possible. B & Bs have just a few rooms, and may have nothing available for your special date. (Most members will assist in finding alternate accommodations. Don't hesitate to ask.)

Many inns do not permit guests to smoke inside. However, most facilities will allow smoking outside. It is good to clarify the inn's policy ahead of time regarding these matters if you are not sure. Our inn is non-smoking with a hefty fine of $500 for dry cleaning of all fabric items in all affected rooms. Smoking is permitted outdoors on the porch.

Most B&Bs will not be "Handicap Accessible," or will have limited rooms that are, so definitely inquire ahead of time if this is a necessity. If stairs would be a problem, this should also be addressed, since ground floor rooms may not always be available. We have one.

Most facilities are small businesses who must have precise cancellation policies that will be different from hotels and motels because they do not have either the number of rooms or the quantity of traffic that larger places have.

Should you need to cancel, do so as early as possible. Remember that your room may represent 25% or more of the innkeeper's income and it may be difficult to fill the room at the last minute.

B&Bs tend to be individually decorated by their owners with quality furniture, artwork, and antiques and are not usually child proof. Well behaved children are nevertheless welcome at some B&Bs, while some have certain age restrictions regarding children, and some do not accept any children at all. If you are traveling with children, it is always wise to ask about any reservations that involve more than the usual "double occupancy" standard. Parents are responsible at all times for the actions of their children. Our policy is to accept children over 12.

Most B&Bs do not accept pets, we do not. Those that do may have special policies regarding the size of the pet, and the rooms that pets are welcome in. Please notify the management at the time you make the reservation if you are traveling with a pet. REMEMBER: Never leave a pet unattended in a strange place.

Some inns will have definite check-in times, while others will allow more flexibility. But you should ALWAYS call the inn if you see that you are going to be unable to arrive as requested by the innkeeper or at the time you advised them you would. Our check-in time is between 4 and 6 PM. We do accommodate earlier or later check-in with advanced notice.

The innkeeper or owner usually serves as a friendly, helpful, personal host while you are the guest. Feel free to ask them about restaurants, things to see and do, directions to places you want to go, etc.

While breakfast is always included in the room rate, some inns serve other meals regularly, or for special events or occasions, so you may want to ask about this or notify the innkeeper if you are interested in arranging extra meals. Some B&Bs offer complimentary snacks also.

It is considered proper form to leave a tip for housekeeping staff. Consider the tip according to how well the service was just as you would out to dinner. Were your towels changed daily? They are at our inn. Were the sink, shower and toilet cleaned daily? There are at our inn. Was your bed made and linens changed as needed? Ours are. If so, housekeeping staff should be shown appreciating in the form of a tip.

Ladies should remember to be kind to the innkeeper and the environment by using the provided make-up remover wipes and/or wash clothes provided for the removal of make-up, instead of all the pristine, white and expensive bath linens for that purpose. Not only does it require much soaking and scrubbing to get out make-up stains ( if it will come out ) it also requires a large chemicals that are harmful to the environment.

Most B&B’s are someone’s home, although they require being run very much like a business, you still want to make sure not to be too noisy. Always consider the person next door or below you in the house. It is a good rule of thumb to keep all noise, TV, conversation, sex etc. A lower volume after the 10 PM hour. While on this subject, make sure your bed is not over the breakfast table if you are a morning couple, if you know what I mean.

Never take anything that does not belong to you. It may go unnoticed at a large hotel if you swipe a washcloth or an ice bucket, but if you relieve the innkeeper of a bathrobe ($110 at ours ) or bottle of complimentary wine ( its complimentary to drink here ) you will certainly find the charge for it on your next credit card statement.

As always When seeking luxury accomadations in the Williamsburg Virginia area Colonial Gardens Bed and Breakfast inn is your best choice.

Whats Coming up this Week in Williamsburg Vrginia

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 250px; height: 132px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_OxRLJuBuE1E/S31wRD-FkOI/AAAAAAAAAIo/YX4SZNHkQZo/s320/chocpic.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439627363359232226" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 250px; height: 225px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_OxRLJuBuE1E/S31wRBZR7YI/AAAAAAAAAIg/VAXtL-gy8IQ/s320/choc2.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439627362667982210" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 248px; height: 121px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_OxRLJuBuE1E/S31wQyznV4I/AAAAAAAAAIY/EgDiq56mEhs/s320/vamusem.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439627358751905666" />
Whats going on this week in Williamsburg Virginia?
Whats NOT? I say somewhere because I can not find any official numbers out yet. All I know is it was the most snow we have seen around here in a least a decade. In any case, It was beautiful. We put a big pot of chili on the stove a fire in the fireplace, hit the hot tub and drank Emeril Lagasse's hot buttered rum cocktails. Oh did I mention before all that we walked about 5 miles in the snow? I really needed the hot tub! I made sure that Ron put out more bird food in the feeder so that the birds did not starve, they look very happy.

Our Guest here at the Inn enjoyed the chili and the fireplaces in their rooms as well as the complimentary Williamsburg Winery wine (I just put out the recycle bottles) and we enjoyed having them here.

We have just introduced our winter rates for our Williamsburg B&B at the Colonial Gardens Bed and Breakfast here in Williamsburg Virginia your choice for Romantic accommodations 800-886-9715
